You deal with the person doing the work

When you hire a freelance developer, the person you brief is the person who builds it. Questions get answered quickly, decisions are made by someone who knows your store, and nothing gets lost passing between people.

Your budget goes on the work

If what you need is development, you pay for development. You are not covering the cost of a larger team around it.

It flexes with your business

Some months need a lot of work, such as a launch or a sale. Others need very little. Working with a freelancer means you can plan for both without a long commitment.

The same person is there afterwards

If something needs a tweak a few weeks after launch, you go back to the person who built it. They already know how it works.

What to look for

  • Live stores you can open and use. Look at how they feel on a phone, and ask which parts the developer built.
  • Experience at your level. A larger store with several regions or connected systems needs different experience from a small one.
  • A clear way of working. You should be able to see changes before they go live, and know how requests and approvals are handled.
  • Straight answers. A good developer asks questions about your store before giving a price, and tells you plainly when a smaller change will do.

How to get the best result

Write a short brief before you reach out. Say what problem you are trying to solve, what you would like the store to do, when you need it by, and who signs it off. It makes the first conversation faster and the quote more accurate.
