Executive Overview
Ottocast required more reliable Shopify navigation behaviour across its mega menu experience, where inconsistent imagery and data handling were affecting storefront consistency.
Core Challenge
Product and collection link contexts were producing inconsistent data retrieval due to parameterised URLs and varying page structures. The challenge was to harden navigation logic while maintaining performance and accessibility across desktop and mobile.
My Role and Ownership
I owned diagnosis and implementation across mega menu data handling, URL-logic refactoring, and image loading improvements aligned to Shopify OS 2.0 behaviour.
Architectural Contributions
Navigation Data Reliability
- Refactored URL-handling logic to ensure consistent product and collection data retrieval across varying link structures.
- Stabilised mega menu image behaviour to reduce visual inconsistency in live navigation flows.
OS 2.0 Alignment and UX Quality
- Modernised image loading patterns in line with Shopify OS 2.0 standards.
- Improved fallback handling and accessibility behaviour across desktop and mobile navigation contexts.
Business and Commercial Outcomes
The outcome was a more stable navigation experience with consistent imagery, cleaner theme logic, and improved resilience as catalog and menu content evolved.
Why This Matters
Navigation reliability directly affects discovery and conversion flow. This engagement reflects Shopify engineering that resolves root-cause logic issues rather than applying short-term UI patches.
